Virtual Reality(VR) Meaning

Virtual reality (VR) means experiencing things through our computers that don't really exist. It  is an artificial environment that is created with software and presented to the user in such a way that the user suspends belief and accepts it as a real environment. On a computer, virtual reality is primarily experienced through two of the five senses: sight and sound.

Virtual Reality is a technology that could fundamentally change the entertainment industry, but it can also apply to other applications as well. Hospital surgeries, corporate videoconferencing, or military simulations are others areas that seem to be natural fits. Currently surgeons are trained using cadavers. The process generally requires more experienced doctors to train the less experienced doctors until they are ready for the time.  VR will be able to provide more realistic education and training for new surgeons. Manipulable 3D scans of patient bodies in a virtual environment will help diagnose problems and plan procedures.

From flight simulators to race-car games, VR has long hovered on the edges of the gaming world—never quite good enough to revolutionize the experience of gamers, largely due to computers being too slow, displays lacking full 3D, and the lack of decent HMDs and datagloves. All that may be about to change with the development of affordable new peripherals like the Oculus Rift.

Virtual reality is the creation of a virtual environment presented to our senses in such a way that we experience it as if we were really there. It uses a host of technologies to achieve this goal and is a technically complex feat that has to account for our perception and cognition. It has both entertainment and serious uses. The technology is becoming cheaper and more widespread. We can expect to see many more innovative uses for the technology in the future.
